The First Dance Song

First know that your dance coach should be able to get you to dance to any song you choose. Some couples just know that 'perfect' song which expresses who they are but haven't a clue how to dance to it. Or, you may not know at all where to start when looking for a song. No worries, that's where I can help.

If you already have a song, then bring that along with you on your first lesson. Together we'll find the right dance that goes with that song. If you like it use it. You can get dance move ideas from watching youtube videos etc, but it's confusing and not always appropriate for your situation – having a professional guide you is more reassuring.

If you don't have a song or know the dance you want to do, then I can walk you through the different styles and help you choose a song that's appropriate. I also have a list of songs others have used in the past.

It's important to allow enough time to learn and then practice together before the wedding. This will make the dancing more fun, graceful and relaxed. I recommend starting at least 3 months (or more depending on what you want to accomplish) prior to the wedding day; or if time is short and you just thought about it, then it's 'never too late' to do something!  Okay..Let's Dance!

The Power of Color

Florals by RhondaColor is a very powerful entity. It evokes a wide range of emotions, triggers memories and sets the tone for an event; weddings included. The colors chosen for a wedding can make the event fun and festive, classical and traditional or distinctive and uniquely one’s own. With a rainbow of colors available, it can be difficult to settle on a color palette. Some people seem to have a knack for color and others feel at a loss.

Three simple tools can help either person.

How Professional is Your Professional?

The stories you are about to read are in reference to "wedding professionals" who are not members of the Loveland Wedding and Event Professionals.

One of our members recently participated at a wedding in another town at a country club.  She was surprised at the attire worn by the country club wedding coordinator.  The coordinator was wearing a tank top with bra straps showing and very short shorts.  This was at a very elegant wedding with fine linens and chair covers with bows.  The coordinator's attire did not fit the formality of the occasion or location.

Drop the Receiving Line?

A poll was done in late May 2009 by the Associated Press and Brides magazine.  They asked a random cross section of people what they did and didn't like about weddings.  The poll has a +/- 3% error margin.

So brides if you are tight on time and need to know what is important to your guests and what is not, now you have an answer.  60% said they liked watching the ceremony a lot.   Only 23% said they liked the receiving line.  Here are the results:

Floral Centerpieces and What to do with Them

Centerpieces - what to do with them.

I have often suggested that when thinking about your centerpieces you should consider height and how it affects conversation.  You know they say one picture is worth a thousand words so here is the picture.  Imagine trying to carry on a conversation with the two women on the other side of the tulips in this photo:

Another thing to think about is what will happen to your centerpieces when the reception is over.  You may wish to give the flowers to some of your guests.  Your DJ can help you by making announcements or even playing a quick game with the guests so that one person at each table is "the winner" of the centerpiece.

Choosing an Officiant

A wedding officiant can make or break your ceremony. An uncaring or unprofessional officiant can sometimes spoil the whole day. Even so, when it comes to finding an officiant, most couples simply focus on two things:

  • Are you available on our date?
  • How much is your fee?

So, if I may, I would like to suggest an approach to choosing an officiant.

Hiring a Disc Jockey

Hiring a Disc Jockey (DJ) should be really easy. After all they just set up a boom box for four hours and play music, right? Oh, if only it were that simple. Planning the entertainment for your special event is every bit as important as the food, beverages, and decorations. Many event planners, corporate planners, and brides will tell you that your entertainment is 80% of the success of your event.
